Anna Marie Josephine Richards, 81, of Carson, California, passed away Saturday, January 8, 2022. Born March 17, 1940, in San Pedro, California, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 50 years, Walter T. Richards, Jr.; parents, Carl and Astrid Wesson; sister Patricia A. (Harold) Holmes; stepson David A. Richards; Aunt Ruth Wesson; and Uncle Ralph Wesson.
She is survived by stepsons Walter L. (Connie) Richards of Glendale, Arizona, and John F. (Kathy) Richards of Columbus, Mississippi; as well as nephews Harold E. (Karri) Holmes of Long Beach, California, and Kenton W. (Amy) Holmes of Cerritos, California, and cousins.
She was raised in San Pedro. With a father in the Navy, the family also lived in Washington State, Rhode Island, and Guam. She worked for many years for Parker Hannifin as a Drafter and Computer Aided Designer. Later she assisted Walter in his machine business.
She was a true fighter. In her lifetime she overcame polio and breast cancer. She had a generous heart and gave freely to causes she held dear, including animals, veterans, and seniors. She was strongly dedicated to family, always making herself available to those in need of help or company. She looked after her husband, mother, aunt, and sister.
Anna Marie especially enjoyed gardening (orchids, in particular), upholstering furniture, and science fiction movies and television. She was a dedicated cat lover.
A celebration of life service will be held at 9 AM on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes, California (Sunrise Slope, Plot 115, Space G). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Disabled American Veterans or L.A. County Animal Care Control.
