Ann M. Mccurry

September 16, 1930 — July 14, 2019

Sallie “Ann” Moran McCurry, 88 years old, quietly passed away Sunday July 14 in Torrance, CA, surrounded by her beloved husband and childhood sweetheart, James Walter “Jim” McCurry of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA and family. She is survived by their five children: James B. McCurry of AL, Dr. Robert D. McCurry of CO, Don R. McCurry, Sally Lou McCurry Brodhead and Mari Ann McCurry Alvin, all of CA, their spouses, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Ann was preceded in death by her mother Sallie Bryant Moran, her father Tom McGee Moran, and beloved older brother Lt. Charlie B. Moran II. She was born and raised in Horse Cave, KY and was a cheerleader at Horse Cave High School; her boyfriend Jim McCurry played basketball on the varsity team. She later attended the University of Kentucky (UK) with her then-fiancé, Jim. After his graduation from UK and commissioning in the USAF, she became an AF wife when she and Jim were stationed at Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, OH, from 1951-55. In 1959, they moved to Palos Verdes, CA with a family of three boys after Jim’s AF discharge and completion of Civil Service duty. She was active in the local PV PTA and was a Cub Scout Den Mother for her three sons. In February 1967, the now family of seven moved to Houston, TX, for six years, one year in Huntsville, AL, back to Rancho Palos Verdes, CA for one year, three years in Vienna, VA, and finally to RPV to stay in 1977, ultimately retiring there. Known as “Miss Ann,” she was a pillar at Rolling Hills United Methodist Church, helping “raise” multiple generations of Sunday School children. She was the epitome of an outwardly focused Christian who always gave of herself for the sake of her family and others. She was a most loving, unselfish, and kind mother and more than any of her children could ever have asked God to provide. She went to be with the Lord literally praising His Holy name.
