Ann Ruth Jones

December 6, 1942 — February 3, 2025

Annie Ruth Jones, born December 6, 1942, sadly passed away on February 3, 2025. She was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, friend. Throughout her life, she remained an example of resilience and independence.

Ann was born to Shedrach and Odessa Jones in Cuthbert, Georgia. Ann grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was educated in the Pittsburgh Public School System. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptised at Central Baptist Church where she was active in the choir and as an usher.

Ann relocated to Los Angeles after graduating from high school where she met and married Charles Barrett and their union was blessed with four children, Charles II, Shedrick (deceased), Wesley and April. After raising her family Ann went back to school and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Work from California State University, Long Beach. She worked as a Children's Social Worker for the County of Los Angeles for a number of years. In both her personal and professional life, Ann was well-known for her delicious cooking. Those who knew Ann, knew she could cook any and every type of food.

After retiring Ann and her daughter April traveled throughout the world, Australia, New Zealand, Peru, Japan, London and Paris. Some of her favorite past-time activities included playing lively games of Bid Whist, Dominos, Board Games, bowling and shopping. She had a green thumb and enjoyed growing orchids.

Ann was a big sports fan. She enjoyed football both the Steelers and the Rams. She especially enjoyed the Lakers. She would watch and become involved in any sports on television. Ann supported a number charities and ministries.

Ann was preceded in death by her son, Shedrick, parents and brothers Homer Jones and Gene Jones. She is survived by her children, Charles II (Shondra), Wesley and April, three sisters Patricia Jones (Harbor City, CA), LaSon Duncan (Pittsburgh, PA) and Maudleen Cottrell (Pittsburgh, PA) and one brother Jewel Fowler (Elise) (Boise Idaho) and five grandchildren and a host of cousins and friends.

She will be greatly missed, forever loved and her memory will be eternally treasured. Gone, but never forgotten.
