Anita Marie Mccullough

April 29, 1934 — September 17, 2023

(89) of Rolling Hills Estates, California – passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, September
17, 2023.  Anita was born in Stockholm, Sweden on April 29, 1934 to parents Oscar Axel Hilmer
and Anna Marie Larsson.  Anita grew up in Danderyd, Sweden eventually moving to California in
her 20s to work as an au pair for a family in El Centro, California, where she took care of 3 small
children for a border patrol officer and his wife.

Anita later became a flight attendant for TWA Airlines.  It was working on one of her many
flights that she would meet her husband-to-be, John (Jack) R. McCullough.  Anita and Jack were
married on November 19, 1960 and lived in Manhattan Beach, California for their first year of
marriage.  Later they moved to a home in Rolling Hills Estates, California where Anita lived for
61 years as a wife, homemaker, grandmother and dog mom to numerous Rottweilers and other
pups.  For a brief period, she worked as a real estate agent for Tarbell Realtors.

Anita thoroughly enjoyed her daily morning walks with her beloved neighborhood friends –
usually with dogs in tow.  She also loved her occasional trips to Hollywood Park to bet on the
racehorses and to Las Vegas to play blackjack and video poker.  And she always appreciated a
good gin martini!

Anita had a great group of Swedish friends that lived in California. They would all get together
on various occasions, keeping their Swedish heritage and connections alive.  She traveled back
to Sweden numerous times to visit with family and friends.

Anita is survived by her three sons, John (Jack) II (Melissa), Michael, and Kevin (Shelley), her
grandchildren, John R. McCullough III, Keely Wallis, Paige Hoerle and Erin Kugel, and great
grandchildren Isla McCullough, John R. McCullough IV, Koa Wallis, Alana Wallis, and Sierra
Hoerle.
