Anita Bernal

Anita Bernal was born Maria Tello on February 3, 1947 in El Terrero, Nayarit, Mexico to Jacinta and Calixtro Tello. She was one of the first of her sixteen siblings to immigrate to the United States at the age of 19 years old. Through determination and hard work supported her family in Mexico and in the United States. As other siblings joined her, they worked together and made sacrifices to thrive in their new country.

She is survived by her five adult children, ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Her husband, parents and three sisters predeceased her. Her faith as a strong Christian carried her through tough times and if you visited on a Sunday you would likely join her on her sermon marathon. Gardening and knitting were hobbies she always enjoyed, and she had a passion for perfecting her tamales that ruined all others for her children. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, friend and mother.

The family thanks you for your support during her fight with colon cancer. We are grateful for the nearly three years we enjoyed life with her as she fought the good fight. She even had the opportunity to take a trip back to Mexico to enjoy her homeland. With much grace and dignity, she made peace with her time on Earth and was ready to transition to a better life in heaven with her loved ones.

She will always be missed and her words and memory lives in each one of us. We are never alone, God is here to strengthen us and we have each other. She left us with this last piece of advice: stay united.

Anita Bernal nació como María Tello el 3 de Febrero de 1947 en El Terrero, Nayarit, México, hija de Jacinta y Calixtro Tello. Fue una de las primeras de sus dieciséis hermanos en emigrar a los Estados Unidos a la edad de 19 años. Con determinación y trabajo duro, apoyó a su familia en México y en los Estados Unidos. A medida que otros hermanos se unieron a ella, trabajaron juntos e hicieron sacrificios para prosperar en su nuevo país.

Le sobreviven sus cinco hijos adultos, diez nietos y dos bisnietos. Su esposo, sus padres y tres hermanas fallecieron antes que ella. Su fe como cristiana fuerte la ayudó a superar tiempos difíciles y, si la visitaba un domingo, probablemente la acompañaría en su maratón de sermones. La jardinería y el tejido eran pasatiempos que siempre disfrutó, y tenía una pasión por perfeccionar sus tamales que arruinaba todos los demás para sus hijos. Fue una hija, hermana, esposa, amiga y madre maravillosa.

La familia le agradece su apoyo durante su lucha contra el cáncer de colon. Estamos agradecidos por los casi tres años que disfrutamos de la vida con ella mientras luchaba por la buena causa. Incluso tuvo la oportunidad de viajar de regreso a México para disfrutar de su tierra natal. Con mucha gracia y dignidad, hizo las paces con su tiempo en la Tierra y estaba lista para la transición a una vida mejor en el cielo con sus seres queridos.

Siempre la extrañaremos y sus palabras y su recuerdo viven en cada uno de nosotros. Nunca estamos solos, Dios está aquí para fortalecernos y nos tenemos unos a otros. Nos dejó este último consejo: Estén unidos.
