Angelo Marcina was born on October 8, 1932 and died on May 31, 2024 at the age of 91. He was diagnosed with lung cancer three years ago and--fortunately--outlived the doctors' prognosis at the time.
He grew up in Luka on the island of Dugi Otok where he met his wife, Maria. Angelo left Yugoslavia by rowing a boat across the Adriatic with his cousin, Nick. He was living in a refugee camp in Capua, Italy when Maria and Goran joined him. Branka was born at the refugee camp. The four of them immigrated to the United States in 1961. They first lived in Cleveland, then briefly in Las Vegas, and settled down in San Pedro where they made a home. Angelo built the life of a Croatian-American for himself and his family. He was a hard working man, having worked in ship building for decades. Even after he retired, he continued to work on his house or his children's homes. He enjoyed helping others improve their homes, with their carpentry projects, or their do-it-yourself adventures. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who asked.
In retirement, Angelo enjoyed his frequent visits to Croatia. He and Maria remodeled a family home in Zaglav, and they purchased an apartment in Zadar.
He is survived by his wife, Maria; his children, Goran, Branka, and Vesna; their spouses Dan and Cecilia; his grandchildren, Ashley and Jesse; his grandson-in-law, Shawn; and his great grandson, Wyatt. He will see his son-in-law, Larry Duncan, in heaven.
He is missed by his family and friends.
