Angelita passed peacefully in her sleep at the age of 94. She was born on a military base in Luzon, Philippines, second child and first daughter of Natalio and Arminda Ecarma. Her father was an Army officer. Her childhood was spent on military throughout the Philippines. She shared fond memories of life as a military family.
After surviving WWII, her family started to rebuild their lives in Manila. She received her pharmacy degree and taught at the University of Santo Tomas as an associate professor. She married and had three children. She envisioned a better life for her family and immigrated to the United States in 1970. She received her PharmD at University of Southern California; and passed the California board exam and the Nevada board exam (which allowed her to practice in 48 states).
She achieved the American dream of home ownership with her first house in Los Angeles. She was a proud homeowner. She worked as a pharmacist at Thrifty’s. Her goal was to work in the health industry, so she got a pharmacy job at Kaiser at the age of 54. She retired at 80 years old.
She was well-respected by colleagues and former students. She travelled to Europe and Asia, realizing another life-long dream.
She would say her greatest source of joy and pride was her family. She was a Lion's Club mother of the year recipient.
She was a loving, devoted, and generous person throughout her journey in life. In loving memory of our dear beloved mama, lola, sister, and tita.
Her exemplary attributes of selfless devotion and unconditional love were a beacon of light to her loved ones and family. She will be forever remembered in our hearts, our loving sunshine forever.
We love you……mahal kita po.
She is survived by her children: Felipe (Zeynep) Vengco, Isagani (Sonja) Vengco, Arminda Au, and grandchildren: Timurhan (Becca), Jivan, Roland Bradley, Keanu, Meryem, John and Marisol.
