Andrea Dianne Brown passed away peacefully in San Pedro on September 12, 2017, surrounded by loving family and just shy of her 83rd birthday. A longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of San Pedro, Andrea was loved both for her buoyant spirit and years of contributing to her local community. Known to many through her work in the offices of Crestwood and Taper Elementary schools (as well as at Dodson Middle School and San Pedro High School), Andrea also served as church secretary at St. Peter By The Sea Presbyterian Church in Rancho Palos Verdes, and at Community Christian Church in San Pedro. She is perhaps best remembered for her beautiful singing voice, having formally trained as a soprano at Long Beach State College. Andrea spent over forty years singing with The First Presbyterian Church Choir and Madrigal Singers, and was also a long time member of the Jane Hardester Singers and Los Cancioneros, singing in performances throughout the South Bay and beyond. Serving her community as a volunteer was among her fondest personal interests, and she contributed effort and enthusiasm to many years of church fundraisers, to Toberman Neighborhood Center, and to the annual packing and delivery of holiday food baskets to needy families at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Born September 28, 1934 to Gwilym and Gertude Williams, Andrea grew up in Orange, California, where she met husband Don William Brown and became a Navy wife as he served during the Korean War. Andrea and Don moved to San Pedro in 1962, where they raised three children, a granddaughter, and many 4H critters. Andrea is survived by her sons Don Brown and David Brown, her daughter Jodie Horn (Sam), grandchildren Cathy Brown, Jake Horn, Sarah Horn, Jordan Horn and Maureen Brown, and many much-loved nieces and nephews. A memorial service celebrating Andrea’s life and spirit will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at the First Presbyterian Church of San Pedro, 731 South Averill Avenue, San Pedro, followed by a private graveside service at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in Andrea’s memory to Toberman Neighborhood Center (
