Andre John Lavelle

July 16, 1944 — June 25, 2012

Went home to be with the Lord on June 25, 2012 in Harbor City, CA at the age of 67. He was born on July 16, 1944 in Highland Park MI, graduated from Denby High at 15 and at 16 entered Michigan State to study nuclear physics. In 1961 at the age of 18 entered into the Air Force and was stationed at Lacklin Air Force Base outside of Washington D.C. Shortly after leaving the Air Force, 1969 he moved to the South Bay. He worked for Douglas Aircraft on DC10's for 10 years. Then he worked for Magnavox/Philips specializing in Guidance System for 30 years. In his retirement he enjoyed bargain shopping for Christmas & birthday presents. One of his favorite memories was playing Santa Clause at his great-nephew, Jacob Blum's school, Willenberg Special Education Center in San Pedro, CA. He had found his calling & was looking forward to the day when he was able to do it again. He was preceded in death by his sister Sondra La Velle. Andre is survived by his siblings Wayne La Velle, Douglas and his wife Christina La Velle, Charlotte La Velle, Roger Provey Jr., Karen Provey, and Craig Provey; his nieces and nephews, Carl Provey Sr., John Provey, Mona Freels, Kendolynn Goodchild, Michelle Blum, Mark Donoso, Sabrina La Velle, Tammy Alarcon, Paige Provey, Colton Provey, and Pearl La Velle; his great nieces and nephews Jennifer Provey, Michael Schabel, Matthew Schabel, Daniella Ruiz, Kristyn Goodchild, Kathrine Schabel, Scott Goodchild, Samantha de la Riva, Carl Provey Jr., Jacqueline Provey, Nick de la Riva, Chris Provey, Emma Blum, Jacob Blum, Erin Flores, Rachel Blum, Elijah Alcaron & his house mates Pio, Debra & Joshua Lumab. We will be gathering to honor his memory at Green Hills Mortuary in Rancho Palos Verdes: visitation will be Friday June 29, 2012 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. & funeral Saturday June 30, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Willenberg Special Education Center & mailed to Michelle Blum at 1030 West 222nd Street, Torrance, CA 90502. She will oversee a special Santa Clause fund in his honor.
