Amos Lionel Brown Jr. was born on June 24, 1947, to the late Amos Sr. and Mattie Brown. He was affectionately called “Bud” by his big sister, Muriel Jean, and younger siblings, Dwyanne, Deborah, and Denise.
Bud attended Harlan High School and graduated in 1964. Following graduation, in 1965, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he became a communications technician. In 1965, he also welcomed his firstborn daughter, Kimberly Ann, with her mother, Deborah Ann Price (deceased). Bud served for two tours in the Vietnam War from 1965 through 1969.
After an honorable discharge, he married Barbara McIntosh in June 1969, and briefly relocated to New Jersey, after the birth of their son, Brian in 1971. Following his separation from Barbara, Bud returned to Chicago, where he continued his college education. He enrolled at Roosevelt University while working full-time at the Illinois Central Railroad.
Bud was later introduced to the love of his life, Beverly Champion, by his good friend and fellow Marine, Tyrone Smiley (deceased). They later relocated to California and welcomed their daughter, Jamie in 1978. He continued his education, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from California State University - Dominguez Hills in 1979. Bud and Beverly married on December 24, 1980.
While living in southern California, Bud began working for the Atlantic Richfield Oil Company (ARCO) in the early ‘80s. In 1990, the family moved to Bakersfield, California, where he continued to work for ARCO, despite commuting over 100+ miles, one-way. Bud also joined Cain AME Church, under the leadership of Reverend Timothy O. Coston, Sr. He retired from ARCO, now known as BP, in 2010, with nearly 30 years of service. In 2023, Bud and Bev left Bakersfield for the friendly climate of Long Beach, California.
On December 11, 2024, Bud departed this life, joining his parents, Amos Sr. and Mattie Brown, his grandmother Clara G. Scruggs, and his sister, Muriel Jean Culpepper. Bud is survived by his loving wife, Beverly Brown; his children, Kimberly Price, Brian Brown Sr., and Jamie Puckett (Carlton); his siblings, Dwyanne Brown (Ethel), Deborah Blue, and Denise Griggs (Carl); his grandchildren, Shaniece Johnson, Brian Brown Jr. (Shanylle), Camryn Wheeler, D'Ajah Brown, Kailyn Brown, and Cayson Puckett; his great-grandchildren, Cairo Brown, Seria Brown and Teo Amos Brown (arriving in April 2025); his daughters-in-law and heart, Angela Brown and Nadiyah Campbell; his close friends, Sylvester Griffin and James Champion; and a host of family members including inlaws, cousins, nieces, nephews.
