Alicia Dolores Jure

May 20, 1931 — November 19, 2021

Alicia Dolores Gomez Jure entered eternal life in Christ Jesus on Friday, November 19, 2021. She was surrounded by family. She was 90 years old.

Alicia was born in Topeka, Kansas, on May 20, 1931, to John and Dolores Gomez. She was the third of 4 children, preceded by her brothers, Gilbert and Richard, and followed by her sister Elia. In 1940, the family traveled cross country to California and on the Fourth of July arrived in San Pedro. Alicia attended Barton Hill Elementary, Dana Junior High and graduated from San Pedro High School in 1949. She loved this new town and made some lifetime friends. In High School, Alicia belonged to a social club, "The MAC'S", which spelled backwards stood for "Calling All Men". She began her passion of photography and writing encouraging letters of home news and faith in God to everyone she knew.

Alicia had pen pals in all four branches of the US military. A request for her correspondence came through her brother. A young marine stationed in Korea in 1951 knew of Alicia Gomez in high school and wanted to write to her. He asked a friend who knew of a Richard Gomez and asked him if he knew of an Alicia Gomez. " Boy, do I! She's my sister!" The letters began. Francis came back to Camp Pendleton, completed his 3 yrs of service and they were engaged Christmas 1953. They married June 12, 1954 at old Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church on 9th Street.

Alicia enjoyed working before high school graduation at San Pedro Hardware store where she sold beautiful china and housewares to all the young engaged couples and new people moving to town. In 1955, she retired to begin her family. Kathleen was born in 1956. Soon came John, James, Maureen, Dolores, and Aileen. They all lived in a little 2 bedroom house on 13th Street. In 1968, Francis packed them all up and moved to Green Valley Lake CA, a small mountain community. They lived there almost 4 years, and then back to San Pedro at 13th Street house, and all the children graduated from their Alma Mater SPHS.

Alicia loved her family, friends and community. Her life was devoted to raising her children and her grandchildren and sharing her faith in Jesus with everyone she befriended. She lived for over 60 years in a craftsman bungalow cottage with a yard full of flowers and memories.

Her husband Francis preceded her in death in May 1997; her daughter-in-law Karen M. Jure in Dec 1991; and grandson, Timothy C. Jure in Sept 2011.

Alicia is survived by her children: daughter Kathleen; son John; son James and his wife Ana and her children Curtis Dinius and his wife Alexandra, and Catherine Dinius, granddaughter Joy Johnson and her husband Jimmy, great-grandchildren Jordyn and James Dean III , grandson Josiah Jure and his wife Corinna; daughter Maureen and her husband Philip Castrejon and grandchildren, Shannon Nelson and her husband Hunter, Amy, and Olivia; daughter Dolores and her husband Loren Smith, grandson Brandon, granddaughter Clarissa and her partner Mathew Castro, great-grandchildren Julian and Dominic; daughter Aileen; her eldest brother Gilbert Gomez and his wife, Olga.
