Alexis H. Ohlund, of Torrance, passed away on September 10, 2012, at the age of 80. Alex was born in Stanton, Nebraska to Gustav and Ida Ohlund and was the youngest of 10 children. He grew up in Stanton, played football and was the captain of his high school football team. In college he also played football, and was a veteran shot putter/ javelin thrower. After serving in the navy from June 1952 until June 1956, he moved to Los Angeles, California. He joined the Santa Monica Fire Department in 1961 and was a fireman for more than 26 years when he retired in 1987. In 1970 he moved to Torrance with his family where he resided for 42 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Elaine; daughters, Randy (Ariel) Gomez, Kim (Dana) Marsaw, and stepdaughter Denise (Bill) Russell; 5 grandchildren, Kellie Gomez, Drew Marsaw, Elizabeth Marsaw, Alexander Marsaw, and Collin Marsaw; 3 step grandchildren, Gina Grant, Lisa Grant, and Austin Russell, and 1 step great-granddaughter Lisette Grant. He also leaves 1 sister, Blanche Sutherland of Columbus, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by his son Robert Ohlund, stepson Anthony Bice, his parents, 5 brothers and 3 sisters. Alex was a loving, gentle, hardworking and very devoted husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed by his family. We are all so blessed to have had a father like you. We love you papa! You will always and forever be our hero. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel, 22605 Kent Avenue, Torrance.
