Albartha ("Beth") Jacoba McEleney died peacefully on December 28, 2024, at Ocean Vista Senior Living in San Pedro, California. She was 104.
Born on June 21, 1920, in Ulrum, the Netherlands, to Rikkert and Menstje Borgman, Beth was raised in Groningen. She trained as a nurse and lived and worked in Amsterdam during and after World War II. At the age of 30 she immigrated to the United States, settling in Fulton, Illinois. In 1954, she married Donald McEleney in Clinton, Iowa, and they moved to San Pedro a couple of years later. She was a devoted wife until his death in 1963. She raised seven children with constant loving care and was likewise dedicated to her ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Charming, clever, and witty, Beth had a zest for life. Her passions included gardening, cooking, crocheting, reading, traveling, and above all spending quality time with her family and friends. Through all of life's ordeals, she never lost her hearty sense of humor nor the mischievous twinkle in her eye, and she always provided tender care to her loved ones. She will be sorely missed.
She is predeceased by her sons Michael, Timothy, and Patrick and daughter-in-law Robin. She is survived by her children Kathleen, Virginia (Daniel), Daniel (Kathy), and Emmett; her grandchildren Lisa (David), Corey (Carl), Courtney, Kevin, Lee (Julia), Maxwell, Brian, Callie, Alexander, and Guy; and her great-grandchildren Griffin, Ryder, Madelyn, Charley, Luca, and Walker.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at Green Hills Mortuary and Memorial Chapel (27501 S Western Ave, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275).
