Al Zirkes

December 10, 1935 — January 10, 2022

Al was born in New York City on Dec. 10, 1935 to Meyer and Evelyn Zirkes. He graduated from Seward Park H.S. and attended City College of New York, graduating with a major in Chemistry and attained a Bachelor of Science degree in 1956. He applied the positive approach he learned at CCNY to everything he did throughout his entire career.

His career ranged from Marketing to Medical Physics and Radiation Safety, which he put to work as a Radiation Safety Specialist when he worked on the Apollo 10, 11, and 12 missions. He traveled to many countries in Europe, Israel, and South America, as well as much of the United States and Canada. and was featured in a two-part television program “Make Peace with Nature.” He was a member of the Mind Spa on Long Island. He loved to play Bridge, did crossword puzzles in ink, and thought nothing of 12 mile walks on the Esplanade from Manhattan Beach to Redondo Beach and Venice Beach to Santa Monica. The family wishes to thank Rio and all the nurses at Clear View and Francesca’s Home for their superb care.

Al is survived by his wife, Shelly, his three children, Arnold, Mona and Michelle from his first marriage, his brother, Mel, and sister, Rhea, grandchildren Zak Falco, Ben Zirkes, Matt Zirkes and Sean Miller; great grand children. Warren and Eva Zirkes, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
