Aida Woichek

May 16, 1913 — January 13, 2022

Although our hearts were not ready to let her go, we now hold in memory, Aida Woichek, our sweet, inspiring, beloved mother and grandmother.

Born in the small, impoverished town of Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico to Daniel and Joan Zambrana, Aida was one of seven close knit siblings. She moved to San Juan, Puerto Rico at the age of 7 to live with her eldest sister, America. This opportunity provided Aida with a better education and brighter future which she was always thankful for.

Aida became a registered nurse and moved to New York in her early 20s. It was a career she had a true passion for. She was “before her time” as a health guru of sorts: always very conscious about exercising and cooking with nutritious ingredients. A few years after becoming a nurse, she met her husband of 51 years, Richard Woichek. They enjoyed traveling and had two daughters together, Eileen and Miriam. In addition, they also had one granddaughter, Julie Gayton and three great grandchildren, Sophia, Ella, and Luke Gayton, all of whom Aida doted on. She loved family get togethers, playing tennis and golf, and always had a joke to tell. Aida was a joyful and kind wife, mother, and the “best grandmother of all time” who loved life and had gratitude for every moment she was alive. She passed in her home in Gardena at the age of 108½ years old.

Aida is survived by her daughters, Eileen Earley and Miriam Prigge; granddaughter, Julie Gayton; great grandchildren: Sophia, Ella, and Luke; son-in-law Joe Prigge and grandson-in-law Tony Gayton. She was preceded in death by her six siblings and her husband Richard Woichek.

There will be a graveside service on Friday, February 18th at 2:30pm at Green Hills Mortuary.
